Golden Day for Switzerland

Today’s Long-Distance race ended in two more gold medals for Switzerland. On a tough, physical course in the hilly terrains of Gondiswil, Fabian Aebersold and Kathrin Müller performed at their very best and set times which could not be matched. The silver medal in the men’s race goes to Simon Imark of Sweden, and Matthieu Perrain of France takes the bronze medal. The decisive moments in the men’s race happened after the arena passage when both Matthieu Perrain and Simon Imark lost precious seconds in a tricky part of the forest. Fabian Aebersold could pull himself together and avoid mistakes in these final parts and this was the key to his success.

The lady’s race was dominated by 25-year-old Kathrin Müller of Switzerland. She showed that she is in a great shape physically and, even though she experienced some critical moments after the arena passage, she won with a big lead. The two Finish runners Ida Haapala and Anu Tuomisto took silver and bronze in a tight race for the medals.

After two days of competitions Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, and France have shown that their teams are very strong. So, we can expect exciting races for tomorrow’s Sprint Relay in Langenthal.
